Companion Services
your loved one’s recovery plan.
What Is
Companion Support?
A treatment plan can look solid on paper but still come apart on an ordinary weeknight. The hours between therapy sessions and psychiatrist visits are when old habits pull hardest, and they’re usually the hours when families have the least help.
A behavioral health companion is a trained professional who spends the day with your loved one in real-world settings like home, appointments, and travel. Companions help the plan your treatment team built actually happen in daily life. The work is non-clinical, and it never replaces therapy or case management. It just gives that care a better chance of working.
What a Companion Adds to Your Loved One’s Care
Five ways daily support keeps the plan on track
Accountability and Structure
Companions help your loved one follow through on practical next steps, daily living tasks, healthy communication, and wellness routines. They are a warm and steady presence, neither nagging nor rescuing.
Making the Day Workable
Appointments, meals, paperwork, getting from one place to the next. Most recovery plans don’t fall apart because someone stopped caring. They fall apart on logistics. A companion keeps track of the practical details so the plan survives a normal, messy day.
Visibility Between Appointments
Companions pay attention to how your loved one is functioning as the day unfolds. They pass those observations to the treatment team in plain, factual terms. Therapists and psychiatrists rarely get this kind of real-time picture on their own.
Working With the Care Team
A companion works alongside your loved one’s therapist, psychiatrist, peer support specialist, and coach, and holds one clearly defined role on that team. This kind of support is often a good fit for people who have struggled in traditional treatment settings.
Support in Hard Moments
When your loved one is dysregulated, has a setback, or hits a hard transition, the companion is right there. The focus stays on safety and on getting back to the plan everyone agreed on. The companion doesn’t improvise a new one on the spot.
Where Companion Support Fits
Companion support strengthens the plan your family already has in place. It works inside or alongside our three core services: Intervention, Crisis Management, and Comprehensive Recovery Navigation™.
A Unique Role on the Care Team
Many families already have a therapist, psychiatrist, peer support specialist, or coach involved. The companion fills a different role on that team and does not step outside it.
Accompanied Transport
Moving between levels of care is one of the riskiest parts of any treatment journey. Our companions are trained in transport. They accompany clients between programs, to appointments, and on the trip home. We treat transport as supervised care, with the same observation and documentation standards as any other hour of the engagement.
Who Provides the Support
Our roster includes licensed therapists and psychiatric nurses as well as career companions with more than twenty years of field experience. Everyone works in a non-clinical companion capacity. We staff this way on purpose, because a clinically trained observer tends to notice problems earlier and escalate faster.
Coordination With Programs
and Providers
Companions stay in contact with your loved one’s treatment program and outside providers. Their reporting follows the treatment plan already in place. Companions don’t set clinical direction. That responsibility belongs to the licensed treatment team.
Daily Rates
Companion services are priced per day of coverage. Each configuration places one practitioner with your loved one for the full day, with sleep permitted overnight.
Companion
$2,100 per day
A trained companion providing full-day support, including overnight coverage.
Therapist Companion
$3,100 per day
A licensed clinician working in the companion role.
RN Companion
$4,100 per day
A registered nurse working in the companion role.
The therapist and nurse configurations place a clinically trained professional in the same non-clinical role. Their training sharpens observation and escalation. It doesn’t change the scope of the work.
When Awake Overnight Coverage Is Needed
Some clients need someone awake and watching through the night. In those cases, we staff two companions on separate shifts. We never assign one person to a 24-hour awake shift, because fatigue wears down the very attention your loved one is being staffed for. We’ll go over pricing for this setup during your consultation.
Your family and your loved one’s treatment team decide on the right staffing configuration together during your consultation.
The Standard We Hold Our Companions To
Clinical-grade expectations for every hour of coverage
Clinical Standards in a Non-Clinical Role
Companion work is non-clinical, but it happens close to clinical care. Companions may be present for medication routines, notice shifts in mood and functioning, and hear sensitive health and family information. Because of that, we hold our companions to clinical-grade standards for boundaries, confidentiality, accurate reporting, and respect for your loved one’s autonomy.
A Trained and Credentialed Roster
We don’t hire companions and send them out the next day. Companion work at Maxwell Recovery Services follows a formal training curriculum that covers professional standards, ethics, boundaries, safety and decision-making, documentation, transport, and scenario-based field practice. A companion joins the roster only after showing safe, consistent judgment.
Documentation That Holds Up
We treat documentation as a safety tool. Clear, accurate notes are how your loved one’s clinical team learns what daily life actually looks like outside their office.
A Clear Path for Every Uncertain Moment
When a situation is unclear, companions follow a set process. They pause, stabilize, consult, document, and act only once cleared. Clinical review and supervision are built into every active case, and true emergencies get immediate action. No companion is ever left alone with a decision beyond their role.
Questions About Pricing or Fit?
We’re glad to walk you through the right staffing configuration for your situation. Every engagement starts with a complimentary, confidential consultation. You can ask about staffing, scope, and how companion support would work alongside the care your family already has.
